Workshop: "Movement Response"
Two Rivers is excited to announce that dancer and choreographer Maura Garcia will be offering a dance workshop at the gallery for the community. Whether it be a story, a personal experience, a painting or a tree, movement response workshops explore how events and objects can be interpreted, understood and explored through dance. Lead by Maura Garcia, people get a chance to create their own movements and dance their own stories.
Everybody welcome, all levels of experience and abilities. This event is free and open to the public so please join us for a morning of fun and movement!
When: Saturday, July 11 at 11 am.
Where: Two Rivers Gallery, 1530 E. Franklin Ave. Minneapolis MN 55404
Who: Maura Garcia
Dancer/choreographer Maura Garcia empowers through movement by presenting contemporary Indigenous performance and working with people to dance their stories of community, strength and love. She collaborates within communities to create stories of identity and place. She is fascinated by stories that have been hidden and the unexpected connections that arise when they are rediscovered. Originally from North Carolina, Maura is and Indigenous woman (Cherokee/Mattamuskeet) who brings her own mixed-blood southern story to all of her work. She has collaborated with a host of wonderfully talented artists to create multi-media, interactive shows and engage via arts projects and experiential workshops involving everyone in the creative process. Maura uses her art to form connections, to uplift Indigenous cultural values and to explore the rhythms of the natural world.
Maura will also be performing in Minneapolis at the 14th Annual Dances at the Lakes Festival at the Rose Garden at Lake Harriet at 7pm on Friday and Saturday, July 10 and 11, 2015.
Rose Garden: Lyndale Park Gardens, 4124 Roseway Road, Minneapolis 55409
