In Emerging Portraits, Kutney presents a series of photographic explorations that draw upon the textures and patterns of the natural world.
An Oglala Lakota and Oneida artist, Scott creates works that explore the many ways portraits can appear—whether through people, objects, or unexpected forms in nature. His ongoing project Hidden Portraits expands this idea, inviting viewers to find personal connections in images that move beyond traditional definitions.
Working across photography, painting, drawing, sculpture, and mixed media, Kutney allows unplanned imagery to emerge, guided by intuition and spirit. Each piece becomes a visual story, shaped by his dialogue with the environment and inner voice. His art reflects on resilience, transformation, and the shared journeys of hardship and peace, encouraging us to discover the positive purposes we hold for one another.
“I am always exploring new creative methods that express my subject matter for the purpose that my heart in some way relates and connects with people commonly through hardships and peace, victories, seasons of life, and environments they may encounter that we may discover the positive purposes inside us for each other.
I pray the best for your life journey.”
