Foundations of Resistance & Renewal

The 1970s mark the beginnings of Two Rivers Gallery as a vital gathering place for Indigenous artists, thinkers, and community members. Exhibitions from this decade reflect a period of cultural resurgence, political awareness, and creative self-determination. Artists used the gallery as a platform to challenge dominant narratives, reclaim visual sovereignty, and assert Indigenous presence through painting, printmaking, sculpture, and mixed media.

These early exhibitions laid the groundwork for the gallery’s ongoing commitment to Indigenous-led storytelling and community-centered art practices.
